So far, we've had to tred lightly on both of our sides as we plan to accommodate for the following:
- My Filipino roots. I come from a family of immigrants. I lived in the Philippines for a short time when I was a teenager and have many relatives that know me over there, some of which will be traveling to NJ for the wedding.
- Our newly found Unitarian Universalist roots. Earlier this year, we joined a Unitarian Universalist church. For those who don't know, it's a liberal faith with roots in Christianity. We have our hearts on having a Unitarian Universalist (UU) wedding ceremony.
- Our desire to have a non-denominational, secular wedding with Filipino elements in it. Research online shows me that this is pretty popular with some people. Wish me luck as I explain this to my mother and others ;-)
I'm hoping that this blog can be a resource for other brides (Fil-Am or not) that are in the process of planning a multicultural wedding. If anything, it shows you that you're not alone!
